Karkala: Huge quantity of explosive materials seized; search on for prime accused

Karkala, Mar 27, 2014:  Police have traced huge quantity of raw materials used for making explosives at Kuntadi Ashoknagar on March 26, Wednesday morning.  The raid followed just a day after  ammonium nitrate worth nearly Rs 1.5 crore was seized in Durga village. Police have now launched a manhunt for Biju Thomas, the prime accused in the case.

The operation was led by ASP Annamalai and they raided a farm owned by Biju Thomas at Kuntadi Ashoknagar and seized the raw materials used for making explosives.

The seized goods include 500 gelatin sticks, 700 electronic detonator, 3 boxes of  safety fuse and 350 bags of Ammonium Nitrate weighing 175 quintals among other things.

The police have gathered information that the accused had purchased the farm which was   in an isolated area to carry out his illegal operations.

Probationary ASP Radhika, Police Inspector GR Raikar, Rural SI Ravi NSN and other staff participated in the operation.
