Mangalore, May 17, 2013: A reported hit and run case at Suratkal on May 14, Tuesday night wherein the pillion rider of a bike died while the rider sustained serious injuries, has taken a new twist, with it now being alleged that it was not an accident but an attempt to kill the bike rider Gangadhar Karkera (50), a civil lawyer as well as a Congress and Mogaveera leader.

It is said the incident took place when Karkera along with his acquaintance Basavaraj was  home from his office near Nataraj Theatre in Suratkal. It is said usually he returned home with his friend Mohanchandra, but on that day was accompanied by Basavaraj.

When the bike reached near Kordabbu Temple, a speeding pick-up van knocked down the duo. Though they were rushed to a hospital in Mukka and later to a hospital in Mangalore,  Basavaraj died while Karkera is undergoing treatment in the ICU.
