Mangaluru, Sep 17, 2017: Torrential rains  have affected normal life in Mangaluru city on Sept 16 Saturday and is continuing. Water entered many low lying areas in the city. Rain water flowed into the shops, houses in some of the areas of the city.  Vehicle traffic jams were reported in many parts of the city the unusual rain gained momentum and is seen to continue.

Panambur near Mangaluru city recorded a heavy rainfall of 10 cm whereas Mangaluru city and nearby areas witnessed a rainfall of 8 cm during the last 24 hours ended on Saturday morning, said India Meteorological Department (IMD). Rains, thunderstorms are very likely to occur during the next two days in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts, said a weather report from IMD.

The weather has become pleasant along the entire west coastline with these hefty showers. In the last 24 hours from 8.30 am on Friday, Mangalore recorded heavy rain to the tune of 84.3 mm, Ratnagiri 42 mm, Honavar 46.7 mm, Goa 38 mm and Cannur 23 mm of rain.

The cyclonic circulation over coastal Karnataka has weakened and a fresh cyclonic circulation can be marked over the east Arabian Sea and adjoining Konkan region. As per Skymet Weather, it is anticipated that the rainfall activity will increase over the northern parts of Konkan, Mumbai and South Coastal Gujarat in the next 48 hours gradually.
