After suggesting that the Koraga Arogya Mela organized annually by the health department should be held several times per year in all Primary Health Centres, he said that it is the need of the hour to pay more attention to the health of women, who usually neglect themselves while taking care of their families.

He also said that health indicators such as low maternity deaths, infant mortality rates, low birth rates, and others are better in DK than in other districts in Karnataka. He, however, regretted that cases of malnourishment are still being reported from several parts of DK.

In his address, Dr. O. R. Shrirangappa, district health officer, said that, although World Health Day is observed on April 7, the district administration is observing it in June along the theme “good health adds life to years.” He also spoke of the importance of paying special attention to geriatric care.

The district administration also conferred awards in various health categories. Ullal Primary Health Centre bagged the Best PHC Award, and Dr. Naveen Kumar of Ullal PHC won the Best Doctor Award.
