The deceased is Conrade Ashok Pashan (40), a resident of Jeppu employed as a carpenter in Dubai. He was on his way to the airport to board a plane to Dubai riding pillion on his friend’s two-wheeler. When his friend lost his balance at the edges of the half-constructed concrete road, Pashan fell on the road and died on the spot.

Advocate and Congress leader Ivan D’Souza said during the protest that the incomplete concretization can kill a number of people, pointing out that already the road has claimed 7 – 10 lives. He also pointed out that the MCC did not even have the courtesy to offer their condolences to the grieving family of Pashan.

A police complaint will be lodged against Mayor Rajani Dugganna and Commissioner Dr. K. N. Vijayaprakash under Section 304(A) of negligence law, said Ivan D’Souza and wanted to know if the government, which heavily compensated the plane crash victims, will pay compensation to Pashan’s bereaved family. Later, Ivan D’Souza offered floral tributes to the body of Pashan.

M. G. Hegde, the Congress spokesperson, said that a protest following a death is indeed painful. Recalling that the MCC blames the environmentalists, who are not permitting them to cut the trees by the roadside, for the slow concretization work, he wanted to know what steps the MCC plans to take to protect the lives of the public. He said that the concretization work, which commenced 7 months ago, is still incomplete.

Fr. Andrew D’Souza and Moideen Bawa also participated in the protest.
