Mangaluru, Feb 15, 2024: The alleged offensive remarks against Hinduism made by a teacher of the St Gerosa English Medium School in Mangaluru, echoed in the state assembly on Thursday.

Mangaluru North MLA Dr K Bharath Shetty raised the issue during zero hour of the budget session of the Assembly.

He said no FIR has been lodged against the teacher concerned. However when the management suspended the teacher and students shouted Jai Sri Ram slogans outside the school, those present there face an FIR under non-bailable columns. How far is this correct?,” he questioned.

He further said he was not at the spot when the incident took place, but still an FIR has been lodged against him.

Responding to this, State Health Minister and DK District in-charge Minister Dinesh Gundurao  said no one becomes a criminal just because an FIR has been filed. He further added that an attempt has been made to incite communal sentiments through this incident.

Opposition leader Ashok demanded the suspension of the inspector who lodged the FIR.

Minister Krishna Bhyregowda who intervened assured to give a reply after reviewing the case.
