Mangalore, April 29, 2013: The Madhava Manjunath Shanbagh Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Goa Konkani Academy was conferred on eminent Konkani writer Fr Mark Walder at a function held at Vishwa Konkani Kendra, Shaktinagar on April 27, Saturday.
The Award is given in association with Konkani Language and Culture Foundation, Mangalore. The award is given to Konkani achievers outside Goa. Pundalika N Naik, President of Goa Konkani Academy presented the Award to Fr Mark Walder. In his address, he hailed the contributions of Fr Mark Walder to Konkani literary world. The Award carries a citation, memento and cash prize of Rs 25000.
He said the Award has earlier been conferred on eminent personalities like KK Pai of Manipal, Basti Vaman Shenoy, JB Moras and L Purushottam Baliga.
The Awardee also spoke on the occasion said the formation of Konkani Bhasha Mandal and Akhila Bharathiya Konkani Parishat have helped a great deal in the promotion of the language.
The guests honored Fr Walder with a shawl, garland, citation, memento, and cash of Rs 25,000.
Basti Vaman Shenoy, Vishwa Konkani Sardar, Mahesh R Nayak, and Judith Mascarenhas, former mayor, Bhushan Bhave, Vice President, Goa Konkani Academy, Venkatesh N Baliga and others were present on the occasion.
