Kundapur, May 11, 2012: Four children who were begging for their living in and around Kundapur were rescued on May 10, Thursday.

DC Dr. Reju directed the labour department, Kedoor Spoorthi Dhama, and other organizations to conduct a routine check for beggars. They were informed by the local people that a few children were begging for their living near Shashtri Circle.

The team then rescued Jyothi (12), Sharavana (11), Sangeetha (9), and Bhoomika (10). The children hail from Bangalore and speak Kannada, Telugu, and Tamil fluently. They were living in tents with their families at Trasi.

All children had fake letters requesting assistance from the public, bearing the seal of the Hyderabad court. They would pester commuters and passers by and get alms from them.

The police feel that a network of child beggars is spreading in the district. They suspect that the kids form part of an inter-state racket as they are from Bangalore.

One of the rescued kids said that they were forced to beg by certain people, and a man would take away the money in the evenings and spend it on alcohol.

The rescued children are currently at Spoorthi Dhama and will be soon taken to the District Child Welfare Department.
