Udupi, April 9, 2014 : The Manipal University campus had a special guest on April 8, Tuesday night. And of course, the guest is no stranger, but the big cat that often strays into human habitation at several places in the district.
Yes, it is a leopard which was first spotted in the campus on Tuesday night. On Wednesday morning it was spotted yet again and forest department was intimated.
It is learnt, the animal had entered the compound of the staff quarters and soon barricades were erected. The animal was finally netted when it came out from the second house which it had entered after getting lured by the bones and chicken.
Satish Babu Rai, ACF and Sheena Kottary led the operation. The big cat will be released in the Kudremukh National Park area, informed forest officials.
Udupi SP Dr Boralingaiah, circle inspector Maruthi Nayak, forest officer Keshava Poojary and others were present.
A large crowd of students as well as locals watched with awe as the leopard was trapped.
