Mangalore, April 8, 2014: Three persons lost their lives  in rain related casualties on April 8. Tuesday evening. Heavy rains, accompanied by strong winds, thunder and lightning  were reported from various parts of Dakshina Kannada including Mangalore, Puttur, Bantwal, Sullia and Belthangady and also most parts of Udupi districts.The rains also led to disruption of power supply at various places.

Bogra Gowda (80) hailing from Puduvettu in Belthangady who was sitting in front of his house died following a lightning strike while  Aisamma (60) and Jameela (30) from Belthangady-Thotattady sustained serious injuries. They have been admitted to a hospital in Mangalore.

 Irshad(19)  also died due to lightning strike at Mangalpady near Kumble. His mother Bushra (38) sustained serious injuries.

 At Ullal Millatnagar, 80 year old Lily D’Souza died when a coconut tree uprooted and fell over her while she was sitting in the verandah of her house.

At Agrar Gumpakallu in B Mooda village, a coconut tree was up in flames due to lightning strike. At Koonadka near Puttur, three electric poles cane crashing down after a huge tree fell over them.

A tree fall also damaged the court complex in Belthangady to some extent.
