Belthangady, Mar 24, 2014 :   Finally, a three member team from the Central Bureau of Investigation has arrived in Belthangady on March 23, Sunday to investigate into the Sowjanya rape and murder case.

sowjanyaThis happens almost a year and a half after the Ujire SDM College student  was found dead, reportedly killed by some unscrupulous elements who had  raped her before killing her. The tragic incident had taken place in October 2012.

The CBI team met Sowjanya’s parents and also visited the place where the crime took place at Pangala near Dharmasthala.

It has been learnt that the CBI will initiate its investigation form March 24, Monday.

The  government had handed over the case to the CBI in November last year after a spate of protests by various organisations including the Kemar  seer as well as the Prajaprabhutva Vedike led by Mahesh Shetty Timarody.

Ironically, the CID which had earlier investigated the case had in its 15 page report,    pointed fingers of blame to Santosh Rao the lone man arrested in the case and who many organisations argue is an innocent and was fixed in this case.
