Mangalore, Feb 11, 2014: In a shocking case reported from Derlakatte in the outskirts of the city, a young doctor who is pursuing his second year MD at Yenepoya Hospital has been charged with sexual abuse.
As per the complaint lodged by a young girl at the Ullal police station, the doctor identified as Dr Niyaz, a resident of Kannur, sexually assaulted her on the pretext of examining her.
It is learnt, the girl was admitted to the hospital for treatment of fever and cough. The incident is learnt to have taken place on February 9. Soon after, members of some women’s organisations, on gathering information about the case, had rushed to the hospital and allegedly assaulted the accused doctor. The doctor later got himself admitted to the same hospital and has filed a case against the women for attacking him.
Ullal police are investigating and the girl is being subject to medical examination. However, Dr Prakash Harischandra who has tried to issue a clarification in a letter to the Vice Chancellor of Yenepoya University, has denied the charges and said a group of people had assaulted Dr Niyaz who had only tried to stop a person from videographing an outpatient in the respiratory medicine department of the hospital.
