DCMangalore, March 31, 2011: Of the 1,203 acre government land which was encroached in Dakshina Kannada district, about 49 acres has been reclaimed. With this, as many as 34 cases have been disposed, said Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav.

Speaking at a meeting on government land encroachment , he said about 1,203 acre government land in 245 cases has been encroached in the district. Of which, Tahsildars have already issued notices to those involved in encroaching 892 acre government land in 176 cases. He said there is a need to initiate action against those who have encroached the government land. The land encroached by the rich should be reclaimed first. However, no injustice should be meted against the poor while disposing the case related to the encroachment.

The DC said the tahsildars should not keep quiet after serving notices to the concerned. They should take measures to reclaim the encroached land. Five FIRs have already registered in Dakshina Kannada district related to the encroachment of the government land, he added. He said 12 tanks which have been encroached in five taluks have been reclaimed.

He directed the Tahsildars to get the documents related to the encroachment of the government school land after holding discussion with the BEOs. The reclaiming of the land will help the public. Hence, the public should cooperate with the revenue department.

Additional DC Prabhakar Sharma, Assistant Commissioners Prabhulinga Kavalikatti and Dr Harish were present.
