Belthangady, April 30, 2014: A KSRTC ‘Vaibhav’ luxury bus carrying people who were part of a tour arranged by the Department of women and Child Welfare, overturned at Madyala Chadavu near the Dharmasthala Welcome Arch on April 29, Tuesday injuring as many as 30 passengers.
It is learnt the driver of the bus lost control over the vehicle soon after it left Dharmasthala after an overnight stay of the passengers at Dharmasthala on April 28. The tour had commenced from Kolar on April 27. It is learnt the bus was heading towards Hassan and Belur when it met with a mishap.
It is said all passengers have sustained injuries and it took some time for the locals including the temple staff as well as the KSRTC unit staff to get them out of the bus. A JCB belonging to the temple was also pressed into service. Some of the injured have been admitted to a hospital in Mangalore.
Dr. D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Dharmasthala also visited the accident spot. Belthangady police have registered a case.
The available names of the injured are Dhanalaxmi, Ratnamma, Timmakka, Narayana, Kantamma, Padmavati, Rajeshwari, Jayashri, Usha Devi, Manjunath, another Narayana, Ravi, Nitya, Sarasamma, Naveen, Mamata, Krishna Murty, Ramappa, Dattatreya, Kamala, Sujatamma, Radha Bai, Tarakesari, Vijayalaxmi, Muniratnamma and river Naveen Kumar.
