Bantwala, April 1, 2024: The death of a young individual, who took his own life by hanging, has sparked controversy, with suspicions of foul play and demands for a thorough investigation.

The deceased, identified as Padmanabha Samantha and hailing from Timaradda in the Vamadapada area, was well-known locally for his involvement with the Congress party and his role as the Vice-President of the District Congress Backward Classes.

Padmanabha was also recognized for his active use of Right to Information (RTI) to share information on social media platforms.

However, recent allegations of fraud, involving a purported sum of 1.50 lakhs taken to secure a government job for a youth, tarnished his reputation. A complaint had been lodged against him at the Punjalakatta police station by the aggrieved youth.

Despite pledging cooperation with the police, Padmanabha had been unreachable for the past three days, with calls to his phone remaining unanswered.

Padmanabha, who lived with his mother and brother, was discovered hanging in the hills behind his residence, only noticed due to a strong odor on Sunday morning.

While initial investigations by the police point towards suicide, the truth remains unconfirmed pending the post-mortem examination.

Law enforcement authorities have commenced inquiries at the scene and have filed a case of unnatural death, with investigations ongoing.

Former minister B. Ramanatha Rai visited the family’s residence to extend condolences and offer support to the family members.
