DCIB inspector Basheer AhmedMangalore, July 9, 2014: Accusations of allegedly trying to ’frame’ a BJP leader in a drugs case in May 2014, has  caused DCIB inspector Basheer Ahmed’s  transfer.  A letter to this effect on July 8 from the additional SP Shivkumar, on the directions of the state home department, confirmed the transfer.

Information states, It was alleged that on May 21, the inspector and his associates deliberately planted sachets of ganja in the car of BJP leader and former APMC president Ronald D’Souza, a resident of Badaje in a bid to falsely implicate him in a drug peddling case. However, Ronald, who approached the inspector to enquire,  caught red handed the inspector  in the act. It was also said Ronald was publicly slapped by the inspector.

People gathered at the spot and the situation became tense, the inspector whisked away Ronald to the police station, where many of the personnel vouched in favour of Ronald. Ronald, who was sure injustice had been done to him, approached the police commissioner and filed a complaint. Though Basheer Ahmed and his supporters made attempts to hush up the matter later and requested him to withdraw the complaint, Ronald was not prepared to do so.

Ronald also wrote a letter, alleging conspiracy and wrongful use of police against him, to the chief minister of Karnataka, who in turn directed the home department to issue orders for Basheer Ahmed’s transfer. However, further action is expected after a full investigation.
