Mangalore, May 16, 2013 : Deputy Commissioner N Prakash who is also the MCC Administrative Officer, has directed the officials to complete the task of desilting all side drains in Mangalore by May 25, in order to gear up for the monsoons.
He was addressing a meeting of officials at the MCC meeting hall on May 15, Wednesday. B S Balakrishna, Chief Superintendent Engineer of Mangalore City Corporation informed the meeting that areas prone to floods have already been identified and a task force comprising of ten teams have been formed to combat monsoon related eventualities.
He also informed that already huge storm water drains have been cleaned up at a cost of Rs 71 lakhs and added one Task Force team will be operative in every five wards during monsoons, while three additional teams will be available at times of any eventuality during night time. The teams headed by Assistant Executive Engineer will function round the clock, he said.
He said of the Rs 100 crores sanctioned to the MCC in the first phase, 12 projects are pending completion, while in the second phase Rs 15.5 crores have been released under the Rs 100 crore project. He said 42 projects are pending and added the footpath and drainage works have been entrusted to Nirmithi Kendra.
The DC on this occasion instructed the officials to expedite all works which were suspended in the wake of elections. He also warned that contractors who fail to execute projects on time will face action by way of cancellation of contract.
MCC Commissioner Dr Harish Kumar informed the meeting that a sum of Rs 20 lakhs has been earmarked for Vanitha Vana.
The DC directed the officials to achieve the target in the scheme of constructing houses for SC ST beneficiaries.
