Mangalore, April 4, 2014: AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi who addressed a mammoth election rally at the Nehru Maidan in Mangalore on April 4, Friday evening, has said that the Congress was committed to fight and defeat those forces which are resorting to politics of hatred.
“The aim of the Congress is to achieve inclusive growth. We want India to progress by taking along every citizen. We are pursuing politics of love and brotherhood and not divisive politics like the BJP,” Rahul said.
Congress will put Mangalore in world map,Said Rahul Gandhi
AICC Vice President Rahul Gandhi said that the Congress will take steps to put Mangalore in the world map in terms of development of technology. Along with Bangalore, Mangalore has potential to become a world class city.
He said it could be done very easily because of the high literacy and good infrastructure. People of Mangalore and Karnataka will benefit a lot from the industrial corridor proposed along the road connecting metropolitan cities. He asked Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, who was on the dais with him, to concentrate on developing Mangalore.
Taking a dig at the BJP for projecting a single person and claiming that he can build the nation, Rahul without making a mention of the BJP PM candidate Narendra Modi, said “Hindustan has innumerous Chowkidars who can lead the nation towards progress.”
“We want to empower the people and march ahead,” the Congress Vice President said.
Stating that the Congress Party has chosen a sincere, dedicated and honest senior leader like B Janardhana Poojary as its candidate from Dakshina Kannada constituency, that too through internal polls which gave the party workers a say in choosing their candidate, Rahul urged the discerning voters of the district to support Poojary to help the UPA rise to power again.
He urged the people to vote for the Congress to develop the port city of Mangalore on par with Bangalore and help it attain fame at national and international levels.
Claiming that the several Congress Governments which ruled Karnataka over the years had helped Karnataka emerge a developed state, Rahul said the BJP which came to power at such a juncture, plundered the resources of the state. Launching a scathing attack on the erstwhile BJP government, he said it was a matter of shame that a Chief Minister of that party had to go to jail on corruption charges.
Taking on BJP, he said the BJP leadership which fails to see corruption in BJP ruled states, however pinpoints corruption only in the UPA government and the Congress ruled states.
“The opposition which speaks in length about corruption however has no answer when asked about its programmes for educational development and other vital issues,” Rahul said.
Rahul once again appealed to the voters to support the Congress, to develop the region, generate host of job opportunities and to take the state on the path of progress.
Earlier, addressing the meeting, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said Narendra Modi cannot become the Prime Minister of India despite his glorification by the BJP, despite the party spending of crores of rupees for his publicity and despite the support of Corporates.
“The BJP has several senior leaders, but still it has chosen Modi as its PM candidate because he is a hardcore RSS man. The nation will suffer if such a man becomes the Prime Minister,” Siddaramaiah said.
He said the Lok Sabha elections are fought at a time when on the one side there are the communalists and fundamentalists and on the other side there is the Congress which is fighting for equality and social justice.
“There is no Modi wave anywhere. If there was such a wave, then we would not have seen such a huge crowd here,” Siddaramaiah said.
“Any number of visits by Modi to Karnataka will make no difference,” the CM said adding the BJP has no face in Karnataka with its long list of BJP ministers who were caught in various scams. He also mentioned the names of tainted BJP ministers right from Halappa, Janardhana Reddy to the former DK minister Krishna Palemar and said it was now time for the politically mature people to decide. He urged the voters to elect the DK Congress candidate Janardhana Poojary by wholeheartedly supporting him.
KPCC Chief Dr G Parameshwar welcomed the gathering. Union Minister Oscar Fernandes, DK District Minister Ramanatha Rai, AICC Secretary in-charge of Karnataka Shantharam Naik, Congress candidate Janardhana Poojary, senior party leaders Motamma, actress Bhavya, State Minister Abhayachandra Jain, Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj, District Congress Spokespersons Ivan D’Souza, Harikrishna Bantwal and several other leaders were present.
