Mangaluru, April 14, 2021: AICC Secretary Ivan D’Souza has said that the Congress party would resort to severe protest if the word Adani is not dropped from the name of the Mangaluru International Airport by the Airports Authority.
Speaking to reporters at the party office on April 14, Wednesday, he said details secured through RTI have revealed that the company cannot include it’s name in the airport’s name despite securing contract for the maintenance and operation of the airport.
He said the progress of the airport has seen a slump and that there has been a cut in facilities, reduction in flights and violation of contract agreement. In this backdrop Save Airport Movement will be launched, he said.
Pointing out that the number of flights to Mumbai have been reduced and the only Indian Airlines flight to Mysuru has also been cancelled, he alleged that airlines companies were hesitating to operate flights from Mangaluru.
He also said that it was a failure on the part of the Airports Authority of India for not being able to introduce flights to Srilanka, Singapore, Thailand, Bangkok and other nations with tourist potential except to Gulf countries even 16 years after getting international tag.
District Congress Minorities Cell President Shahul Hameed, MCC Opposition leader A C Vinayraj, District Youth Congress President Luqman Bantwal and others were present.
