Chaos at MESCOM recruitment process for Asst. Linemen in city

Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, June 17, 2014 :  Hundreds of candidates from across the state who had  gathered  at the Mangala Stadium in Mangalore on June 18, Wednesday to appear for the recruitment and endurance test by MESCOM for the post of assistant linemen resorted to a flash protest when the interviewer began to reject most of the candidates. It is  said the MESCOM authorities had wanted candidates with ITC certificates and not ITI. But the irony was that most candidates who had applied almost two years ago were called for interview by MESCOM despite knowing that they had ITI qualification.

The  recruitment process  underway in Mangalore and Shimoga is to fill 346 posts of assistant linemen in MESCOM.

Candidates not only from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi but also from  other places like Chikmagalur, Hubi,Dharwad, Davangere, Bijapur and Belgaum had arrived for the recruitment process.

Most of the rejected candidates said they had spent for application and also their travel and stay in Mangalore but of no avail.

However, clarifying on the issue, MESCOM Senior Engineer and President of the Assistant Lineman Endurance Test committee UB Sukumar said  the MESCOM had invited only ITC candidates and not ITI candidates and that the selection process held on Wednesday was for ITC candidates. He also made it clear that ITI and ITC candidates have separate reservations.
