Mangalore, Mar 12, 2014 : Two persons who were arrested in connection with chain snatching cases, have been sentenced to two years of rigorous imprisonment apart from a penalty of Rs 5000.
The Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court which passed the judgement on March 11, Tuesday has said they will have to undergo two years of imprisonment in each of the two cases and will also have to spend an additional six months in prison if they fail to pay the penalty.
The convicts are Vincent D’Souza (48) from Hoigebailu in Ullal and Naveen Sequeira(39) from Chembugudde near Thokkottu. One of them Vincent is physically challenged and has a prosthetic leg and was in the profession of event arrangement while Naveen was a waiter in the hotel.
Both of them who wanted to make fast bucks had resorted to chain snatching and are now convicted in the case of snatching chain valued at Rs 90,000 from Geeta Balakrishna at Bejai on February 13, 201 and Sumangala Bhat of Derebail who had lost a gold chain valued at Rs 70,000 on October 9, 2012.
