Mangalore, Nov 25: The Bhagavad Gita Abhiyan of Dakshina Kannada and Kasaragod districts was inaugurated at Sanghanikethan Hall on Nov 25, Wednesday, by Sri Gangadharendra Sarawathi Swamy.

District In-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar presided over the function and said that all parents provide good food, shelter, and clothes to their children, but not all parents educate their children the same way. He said that parents expect their children to respect them, but fail to impart spiritual education. He urged all parents to teach their children the values of the Bhagavad Gita.

Vishweshwar Hegde Kageri, the state primary and secondary education minister, was the chief guest of the occasion. He said that this is the best time for Swamiji to continue the Bhagavad Gita campaign and create awareness about the teachings of Lord Krishna. He said that people get educated only for the purpose of getting a job and earning money. Only a few learn about the values of life. He said Indian traditions and cultural values must be inculcated in children right from a tender age. 

MLA K Amarnath Shetty, Balakrishna Bhat, advocate Ivan D’Souza, K C Nayak, Srinivas Poojary, Erya Lakshminarayan Alva, and Kumble Sundar Rao were the chief guests of the programme.

He said that campaigns such as the Bhagavad Gita campaign must flourish all over the country, giving people the message that spiritual knowledge and spiritual values are just as important as improving one’s financial status. 

Mijar Sadanand Pai, who sponsored the printing of copies of the Bhagavad Gita, said that people blindly ape the West, forgetting  own cultural tradition. He said that one lakh books will be distributed among school students in order to inculcate the feeling of oneness. 

M B Puranik, the chief of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Mangalore division, made the welcome speech.  G N Bhat delivered the key note address.
