Belthangady, June 19, 2013: Two more Basadis in Belthangady taluk have been burgled within two days of the theft in the Neriya Basadi. Thieves who broke into the Chaturvinshati Basadi in Bangadi by breaking open the front doors have decamped with the Panchaloha idols of Sri Adinatha Swamy, Vrishabhanatha Swamy, Dharmanatha Swamy, and Mahaveera Swamy.
The Basadi of Padmaprabha Theerthankara which is located in the same compound was also targeted. Thieves stole the 18-inch idol of Padmaprabha Theerthankara apart from the Panchaloha idol of Lord Brahma .A vain bid to even loot the Shantinatha Swamy Basadi has also been made. The thieves later escaped with the cash in the donation box of the Basadi.
The thefts came to light when the priests arrived to perform Puja on Tuesday morning. Senior police officials including DySP Sadananda Varnekar and Circle Inspector Sudhaker Nayak have visited the spot. A dog squad and finger print experts have also been pressed into service.
It may be recalled here just recently thieves had stolen as many as 17 idols and gold chains from the Neriya Basadi.
