Beltangady: Transportation issues haunt students taking second PU English exam

Belthangady, March 14, 2024: The English subject examinations for second PU students took place on Wednesday, causing a surge of students at the bus stand due to its compulsory nature. However, the lack of additional KSRTC buses resulted in inconvenience for the students.

Although the examination centers were within their own colleges, PU examination board regulations mandated that students couldn’t take exams at their own institutions. Consequently, students from Ujire, Mundaje, Kakkinje, Charmadi, and Didupe had to travel to Beltangady and Punjalkatte for their exams, while those from Beltangady and Punjalkatte had to journey to more remote locations.

Despite the changes in examination centers, KSRTC failed to provide extra buses, worsening the inconvenience, particularly when a gas tanker overturned on Shiradi Ghat.

Most colleges in the taluk were situated on the outskirts, causing express buses to skip these areas. As a result, students had to rely on slower local buses, already crowded from the outset.

By 9 am on Wednesday, numerous students found themselves stranded at Ujire town and Beltangady bus stations, affecting regular commuters. Many students had to resort to paying double fares for privately hired vehicles to reach their examination centers on time. Parents and students voiced their dissatisfaction with the PU examination board for altering rules without considering the students’ difficulties.
