Mangalore, July 05, 2014: The BJP has formed a 40 member committee to study the problems faced by Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts and suggest solutions for the same after a comprehensive study.
Speaking to reporters at the District BJP office on July 5, Saturday, Shobha said the Committee will also elicit the views of the people. Shobha said the problems faced by the two district are almost the same and added all out efforts would be made to ensure that there is a balanced development while laying due emphasis on environment protection.
MP Shobha Karandlaje also informed that senior BJP leaders including Ananth Kumar, Yeddyurappa and District BJP Chief Pratap Simha met Union Environment Minister with a request to implement the Kasturi Rangan and Gadgil reports after taking into consideration the views of the locals.
On the problem of sea erosion, Shobha said the problem has been recurring every year with only boulders dumped to find a temporary solution. She said a sum of Rs 60 crores to Rs 70 crores would be released by the Centre to the state every year to find a permanent solution to the problem.
The MP also hinted at plans to relax CRZ rules to help fisheries sector. She further spoke about the plans to have a Fisheries University in the city.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel who also spoke, said the Centre would be requested to find permanent solution to the several pressing issues confronting the two districts.
State BJP Vice President Banu Prakash, Pratap Simha Nayak, District BJP President, Capt. Ganesh Karnik, MLC and Chief Whip of BJP in the Legislative Council, Kota Srinivas Poojary, former minister and several other party leaders were present on the occasion.
