Annual feast of Lady of Vailankanni at Stella Maris Church on Aug 15

Udupi, Aug 06, 2019 : The annual feast of Stella Maris Church, devoted to Our Lady of Vailankanni, at Kalmady near Udupi will be held on August 15. 

Speaking to media, parish priest Rev Alban D’Souza said the new church was inaugurated on January 6, 2018. Inspired by the Noah’s Ark, the church is built in the shape of a boat and also has a bell tower in the shape of a lighthouse, he added. The annual feast celebrations will begin with the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration.

 

Udupi Bishop Rev Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo will preside over the Holy Eucharist. On August 14, the procession of Our Lady Of Vailankanni will be flagged off by MLC Ivan D’Souza from Adi Udupi Junction. Thereafter the Solemn Eucharistic Celebration will be presided by Mangaluru Bishop Most Rev Dr Peter Paul Saldanha.

Nine days of Novena and prayers will be conducted every evening from August 6 to 14 at 3:45 pm. Each day of the Novena is dedicated with intentions and themes.

The flag of Our Lady Of Vailankanni will be hoisted on the newly inaugurated column of honour beside the Church, today, August 6 to mark the beginning of the nine day-novena.

Rev Dr Ronald Serrao, Rector of St Joseph Seminary, Mangaluru will be the main celebrant for the Holy Eucharist, today.
