Manipal, May 13, 2014: The stage is set for counting on May 16 of votes polled here on April 17 in the Udupi-Chickmagalur Lok Sabha seat. Dr Muddumohan, Deputy commissioner of  Udupi district said the venue is T A Pai English Medium School, Kunjibettu.

Addressing the media at a Press meet at his office, DC said all arrangements were in place, the counting will begin at 8 am on May 16. Each hall is allotted for one Assembly segment. 18 tables, 138 supervisors, 138 counting assistants and 138 micro observers have been deputed for the purpose.


The DC also said that, the candidates can appoint one each counting agents to 18 tables. Ministers, MPs, MLAs, Zilla Panchayat/Taluk  Presidents/Vice-Presidents are not eligible for appointment as counting agents. Counting agents will be issued Assembly constituency wise colour coded passes

The use of mobiles and electronic devices by the counting agents inside the counting room is banned. If found, the mobiles will be confiscated and complaint registered. Returning officers, Assistant Returning Officers and Observers can use mobile inside the counting rooms for official works. There will be 16 rounds of counting for Kundapur, 15 for Udupi, 14 for Kaup, 15 for Karkala, 18 for Shringeri, 16 for Mudigere, 17 for Chikmagalur and 16 for Tarikere.All matters are monitored.

The strong room will be opened at 7.30 am. The staff will be randomly allocated on the spot on  May 16 morning early. After each round of counting, the election observer will randomly inspect/check the control units. The additional counting assistant will record the candidate-wise votes and inform the same to the observers. The highest level of ethics and discipline are expected from all present including the public awaiting result.
