Mangalore, Mar 28, 2014: Scrutiny of nominations submitted by candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, were held on March 27, Thursday and all nomination papers were found valid.
The scrutiny was done by Deputy Commissioner AB Ibrahim who is also the District Returning Officer. The election observers and representatives of the candidates were also present. A total of 17 candidates are in the fray from the constituency.
However the final picture would emerge by March 28, Friday evening as today is the last date for withdrawal of nominations and nominations can be withdrawn till 3 pm.
Of the 17 nominations, four are from recognised parties B Janardhan Poojary (Congress), Nalin Kumar Kateel (BJP), K Yadava Shetty CPI(M), Moose Kunhi (BSP), while three others are from parties which are registered but not recognised. They are MR Vasudeva (AAP), Supreeth Kumar Poojari (HJP) and Mohammad Haneef Khan (SDPI). The rest are independent candidates.
The DC has also informed that 24 cases of violation of election code of conduct and 16 cases pertaining to Excise Department have been registered so far and that FIR has been filed in 10 cases and Rs 8.6 lakhs cash seized.
He also stated that 1103 service voters in DK will be voting through postal ballot most of them being military men from Sullia.
