Mangaluru, August 27, 2017: Three persons were arrested on Saturday for allegedly attempting to smuggle ganja into the district prison here. The police seized about 250 grams worth Rs 3,500 from them.
The arrested trio identified as Ritesh from Ashoknagar, Ravi from Puttur and Rajesh from Kunjathur were taken into custody by Kadri police inspector, Maruti G Nayak and team.
Unauthorised items finding their way to the prison cells have been a headache to the authorities who have been trying ways to fortify the prisons. Often visitors conceal ganja and other contraband inside fruits and other eatables they pass on to the prisoners.
Throwing ganja on to the premises was detected several times earlier, when people could go near the wall from the Jail Road side without getting noticed.
Kadri police have registered a case and are further investigating.

Unless there is some crook inside the prison it is not easy to access it. This incident came to light after the Mayor noticed it. But why is the department not acting strictly on such. | |
