Mangalore, Feb 2, 2014: Three eminent Konkani literary personalities were conferred the Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Awards at a function held at TV Raman Pai Convention Hall on February 1, Saturday. The Awards are instituted by the Konkani Language and Cultural Foundation Mangalore.
Sheela Kolambkar, a renowned Konkani writer bagged the Vishwa Konkani Literary Award for her Konkani book ‘ Sheela Lekh’ a collection of Konkani essays. Madhav Borkar, noted poet and leader of Goa Liberation Movement bagged the award for his Konkani poetry book ‘Symphony.’
Nagesh Karmali who is also a known poet received the Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Lifetime Achievement Award.
Renowned Kannada writer Na D’Souza conferred the Awards and stressed the need to translate the award winning works.
TV Mohandas Pai, Chairman of Manipal Global Education Services who was present as a chief guest, commended the role played by the Foundation in honouring Konkani literary personalities.
Vimala V Pai, Basti Vaman Shenoy, President of the Foundation. Venkatesh Baliga, Secretary and others were present.
