Udupi, April 3, 2014 : As many as ten buffaloes and a cow which were being unauthorisedly transported in a Tata 909 vehicle were seized by the Kaup police in an operation at Koppalangady on April 2, Wednesday. Two persons who were in the vehicle were arrested.
The cattle were crammed in a inhuman way in the vehicle leading to the death of a buffalo due to suffocation.
Police said the cattle were being transported illegally to Talapady from Kota and were supposed to be sold there. Incidentally, the vehicle was also loaded with vegetables to throw dust at the eyes of the cops.
The operation was led by Kaup Inspector Rajendra Naik. Those arrested are Zainulla Abid (28) of Puttur and Mohammad A(54) of Kasargod. Police are yet to ascertain if the duo had stolen the cattle or had bought them to send them to butcheries.
In another interesting aspect, a picture of Shivaji was hung in the vehicle along with pictures of Bhagavadwaja and Trishul. The vehicle also had two number plates of Maharashtra and Puttur registration.
The police have shifted the cattle to the Goshala at Neelavara. The accused duo have been remanded to judicial custody.
