Salem FB suicide: Police arrest factory worker for uploading morphed photos

Mangalore Today News Network

Chennai, Jun 29, 2016: Salem Police on Wednesday morning arrested a man for uploading morphed pictures of a woman on Facebook, an incident which drove the woman to commit suicide.

dead-body_Confirming the arrest of 21-year-old Suresh, a worker in local powerloom factory, police said he confessed during interrogation that he did it in anger and vengeance after the girl rejected his advances.

“I hope this would shut the mouths of all those who were talking of police inaction. We got the coordinates of IP address only yesterday and then we quickly moved to identity and nab the suspect,” Amit Kumar Singh, Salem SP, said over phone from Salem.

A morphed photograph showing the 21-year-old in a state of undress had surfaced on the social networking site on June 23 after which her father lodged a complaint.

Police questioned a suspect named by the girl, but had to let him off as he was not found to be involved, after investigations and questioning.

However, another morphed photograph of the woman – this time carrying her father’s mobile phone number as a footnote – cropped up again on Sunday. Unable to bear the humiliation, she hanged herself from the ceiling fan while her parents were away

It takes time for us to get these details, and once we got them, we wasted no time to move in, the SP said.

The arrest of Suresh, who used to live in the neighborhood -- within one km of the girl’s residence -- and his admission of guilt shows that it is a case of jilted lover taking revenge by harming her and her reputation out of spite.
