Noida BMW hit and run case: Family of 20-yr-old killed protest with body on road

Noida, Apr 18,2016: A day after a BMW car hit three persons leaving one dead in Noida Sector 24, the family members of the deceased demanded strict action against the errant driver, who has been identified as a gym instructor in Delhi.

 

Gulfam Ali’s family members put his body on the road near the intersection of Noida sector 12-22 and staged a demonstration demanding justice. More than 100 people, including Ali’s neighbours, joined the protest due to which the road remained blocked for two hours. They raised slogans against Uttar Pradesh Police.

Ali, 20, had succumbed to injuries in Safdurjung Hospital a few hours after the accident Saturday. The condition of the two injured is stated to stable, said sources.

“I just spoke to him on Friday. He asked after my health, and how his brothers were doing... if they were studying properly or not... And this has happened,” Wahid Hussain (50), Ali’s father, told The Indian Express.

Senior officers managed to pacify the protesters after assuring them the guilty would be arrested soon. Ali’s body was later taken to his native place in Moradabad. He worked as an AC mechanic in Noida and earned around Rs 9,000 per month. He was the sole breadwinner of the family, said a relative.

The accident occurred near the Noida stadium in Sector 24, when Ali and the two passersby were hit by the speeding BMW, which came to a halt some distance away. Witnesses said the driver brandished a weapon when a crowd surrounded him and fled.

“We have identified the driver and will arrest him soon. We have seized the car and registered a case under IPC section 304 at Sector 24 police station,” said Kiran S, Senior Superintendent of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar.
