Lucknow, May 24, 2017 : Even a week after the mysterious death of Karnataka cadre IAS officer Anurag Tiwari, who was found dead near a guest house in the state capital, the special investigation team (SIT) has not been able to make any headway in the matter even as the doctors, who performed autopsy of Tiwari’s body, said that it had ’’antemortem’’ injuries.

According to the police sources here on Wednesday, the SIT would be recording the statement of the family members of Tiwari. ’’We also plan to take a member of the family to Bangalore,’’ said a senior police official here.

A police team is likely to leave for Bangalore in a day or two, sources said. The team would meet senior officials in Bangalore to find out if Tiwari was indeed probing some major scam in the food and civil supplies department.

Adding to the mystery behind the death, a team of doctors, which performed the autopsy, said that there were injury marks on Tiwari’s face. ’’There were injuries on inside part of his lower lip, face and chin,’’ said an official privy to the postmortem report.

Sources said that the nature of injuries suggested that Tiwari’s death might not be natural.

They also said that senior UP IAS officer Prabhu Narain Singh, who was a batch mate of Tiwari, and was staying in the same room where Tiwari had stayed at the government guest house in the state capital, told the cops that Tiwari had been under stress and had requested for extension of his leave.

Tiwari, who was commissioner, food, civil supplies and consumer affairs department in Karnataka, was found dead here on Wednesday. His body was found lying on the side of the road a few metres away from the Meerabai Guest House. The probe of the case has been handed over to CBI.
