Major blast in Lahore near Hafiz Saeed’s house; 2 killed, 16 injured

Lahore, Jun 23, 2021: At least two people were killed and 16 injured in a major blast in Pakistan’s Lahore on Wednesday. The blast occurred near the Lahore residence of terrorist Hafiz Saeed, as per reports.

 

Soon after the blast in the Johar town of Lahore, police and bomb disposal teams reached the site of the incident and started rescue operations.

Those injured in the blast were shifted to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital via private cars and auto-rickshaws, a rescue official said.

Witnesses said the intensity of the blast was such that glass windows of nearby houses and buildings were shattered. A few buildings at the site of the incident were also damaged in the blast.

An eyewitness told Geo News that an unidentified individual parked a motorcycle near the house which later exploded. Police, meanwhile, cordoned off the area for further investigation while traffic was redirected.

Several photos and videos of the blast in Lahore were shared on social media.

The nature of the blast, however, has not been ascertained yet.

Condemning the incident, Usman Buzdar, chief minister of Punjab province, said action will be taken against those behind the last.

In a tweet, Usman Buzdar said he has demanded a report from the police regarding the blast in Lahore as he ordered an investigation into the incident. He added that an emergency has been declared at Jinnah Hospital in Lahore where the injured were shifted.
