India records 61,267 new cases of Covid-19 as tally reaches 66,85,082

New Delhi,  Oct 06, 2020: The ministry of education on Monday released SOPs for reopening schools from October 15. According to the guidelines, students can come to schools on a voluntary basis and only after written consent from parents. Also, states can decided whether they want to open schools and colleges from the said date or not.

Globally, Nepal on Monday recorded 19 deaths due to Covid-19, the country’s highest single-day death toll, its health ministry said. In New Zealand, prime minister Jacinda Ardern announced easing of restrictions in the largest city of Auckland, after no new cases were registered in 12 days. The United States, India and Brazil--in that order—continue to be the three worst-hit countries, followed by Russia and Colombia, as per worldometers.

India’s Covid-19 caseload reaches 66,85,082 with 61,267 new cases in last 24 hours. 75,787 new recoveries and 884 deaths also recorded. Recovered cases at 56,62,490; active cases at 919,023 and death toll at 103,569.

10,89,403 samples tested for Covid-19 on 5th October. Total of 8,10,71,797 samples tested in the country up to 5th October: Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)

15 new Covid-19 cases and one death in Victoria--Australia’s second-most populous state--in biggest single-day spike in five days.

Mexico’s health ministry has reported highest new number of single-day cases and deaths, at 28,115 and 2,789 respectively. The country’s tally stands at 789,780, with a reported death toll of 81,877.

There were 12 new cases of Covid-19 in mainland China on October 5 as compared to 20 on October 4. The total number of confirmed cases in mainland China stand at 85,482, while the death toll remained unchanged at 4,634.
