India records 50,848 new Covid-19 cases, 1,358 deaths in 24 hours

New Delhi, Jun 23, 2021: India recorded less than 50,848 new Covid-19 cases, pushing the overall cases tally to 3,00,28,709, according to the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday. A day earlier (on Tuesday), the country, for the first time in 91 days, had recorded less than 50,000 daily cases at 42,640.

The top five states which have registered the maximum number of Covid-19 cases are Kerala with 12,617 cases, followed by Maharashtra with 8,470 cases, Tamil Nadu with 6,895 cases, Andhra Pradesh with 4,169 cases and Karnataka with 3,709 cases.

As many as 70.52 per cent of the new cases are reported from these five states, with Kerala alone responsible for 24.81 per cent of the new cases.

Meanwhile, 1,358 more people succumbed to the Covid-19 infection in the last 24 hours with maximum casualties being reported in Maharashtra (482), followed by Tamil Nadu with 194 daily deaths.

The nationwide toll due to Covid-19 has now mounted to 3,90,660.
India’s active caseload has now declined by 19,327 to 6,43,194 -- the lowest in 82 days.

Meanwhile, the Covid-19 recovery rate in the country has risen to 96.56 per cent, while the daily positivity rate is at 2.67 per cent, the Union health ministry said.

The weekly positivity rate remains below 5 per cent and is currently at 3.12 per cent.

Also, India has administered a total of 54,24,374 doses in the last 24 hours, which brings the total tally of doses administered to 29,46,39,511.On Monday, a record 88 lakh Covid-19 vaccine doses were administered as the revised guidelines for Covid-19 vaccinations came into effect.
