Come January, no interview for non-gazetted posts

New Delhi, Oct 26, 2015, dhns: The Central government will fill up Group D, C and B level non-gazetted posts by recruiting candidates without any interview from January next year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced during his “Mann Ki Baat” radio programme on Sunday.

“The government has completed the entire process. There will be no interview for recruitment in the central government’s group D, C and B level non-gazetted posts. It (decision) will become effective from January 1, 2016,” he said.

The prime minister said he decided to end the system of interview for lower category jobs in view of the plight of the “poor people” running to every nook and corner to get a “sifarish” (recommendation) and ending up losing their money to middlemen.

“Those in search of small jobs have to go through many ordeals. Groups of ‘dalals’ (middlemen) cheat them and make way with their money. They (job seekers) have to lose their money whether they get employment or not. I kept on hearing such reports and then it crossed my mind as to why there was the need for an interview for small jobs. I have never heard of a psychologist in this world who could evaluate a person’s capabilities during just one to two minutes interview,” Modi said.

The prime minister had vowed to discontinue the system of interview for lower level posts while addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the Independence Day on August 15, saying this would help in “curbing corruption”.

He had also urged the state governments to consider taking similar steps, saying evaluation of personality and experience of a candidate through an interview matters only for the jobs of senior ranks.

“I wish all the best to my young friends,” he said on Sunday. During his 35-minute radio programme, Modi also gave a call for carrying forward the “mantra of unity and diversity” invoking Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel ahead of his birth anniversary.
His remarks came against the backdrop of the Opposition trying to corner the BJP over incidents of violence and intolerance.

“The mantra of unity should always be the medium of our thinking, our behaviour and expression. India is full of diversity. It has different sects, different religions, different languages and different castes. This diversity is our beauty.

Had this diversity not been there, we would not have been able to feel proud,” he said, appealing to the people to participate in the “run for unity” event to be organised in different parts of the country to mark birth anniversary of Patel on October 31.

Speaking about his upcoming visit to Britain, Modi told the listeners that the place where B R Ambedkar used to live had now become Indian property.
“I am going to officially inaugurate it,” he added.
