CID to probe rape plaint of retd IAS officer’s daughter

Mysuru, May 15, 2015(DHNS):  A month after a retired IAS officer’s daughter lodged a complaint of sexual assault and dowry harassment against her Mysuru-based brother-in-law and parents-in-law respectively, the government has decided to hand over the probe to criminal investigation department (CID).

In a press meet held here on Thursday, Police Commissioner B Dayananda, said, “Following a direction from the higher ups in Bengaluru on Wednesday, it has been decided to hand over the probe to CID.”

 The commissioner further said, “The previous commissioner (M A Saleem) had recommended for criminal investigation department  probe, considering the nature of the case. They (the criminal investigation department) will probe into both sexual assault and dowry harassment charges.

Case background

 On April 14, a retired IAS officer’s daughter had lodged a complaint at Indiranagar police station in Bengaluru against her in-laws in Mysuru.

The complainant had alleged that her brother-in-law Dr Prabudha Harsha Murthy had sexually assaulted her when she was pregnant in November  2014.

She had also blamed her parents-in-law Dr C B Murthy and Nalina of abetting their elder son’s acts and also harassing her for dowry.

The following day (April 15), the case was transferred to V V Puram station, in Mysuru, as the said criminal acts had allegedly occurred at the house located in the said police limits.ACP (NR Sub-division) Umesh G Shet, the investigation officer (IO) in the case, had recorded the statements of Murthy couple. The Murthy couple had obtained anticipatory bail in the case.

HC hears advance bail plea

Meanwhile, the High Court of Karnataka on Thursday heard the anticipatory bail plea of Dr Prabhudha Harsha Murthy, who is booked under IPC Section 376.
 Counsel for the accused C V Nagesh and advocate B A Belliappa, appearing for the victim, placed their arguments before the judge Justice K N Phaneendra. Dr Harsha Murthy had moved the High Court after the Seventh Additional District and Sessions Court in Mysuru dismissed his advance bail plea.
