Bengaluru Gym Trainer Allegedly Killed Flipkart Delivery Man For Smartphone

Bengaluru, December 15, 2016: On December 9, Nanjundaswamy, a Flipkart employee in Bengaluru, went to a gym to deliver a Smartphone.  The man who had ordered it - a trainer - was allegedly waiting with a knife. Days later, the police found the 29-year-old Flipkart delivery man’s body in the basement of the building.

Varun Kumar, a 22-year-old gym trainer, has been arrested for murder. He could not afford a smartphone, so he allegedly decided to get it at all costs, even if it meant killing the delivery man.

Varun ordered the phone online and gave the gym as his address. The police say he attacked Nanjundaswamy with an iron rod and a flower pot. When he fell unconscious, Varun allegedly slit his throat. Then he dragged the body to the basement cellar.

Varun allegedly kept the phone worth nearly Rs. 12,000, and also stole other phones in the delivery man’s bag.

When Nanjundaswamy didn’t return home for two days, his family filed a missing report.

After tracking down the building where he made his last delivery, the police found the body in the cellar. Soon, the trail led to Varun, who had allegedly not opened the gym since the murder. He was arrested earlier this week.

The police believe Varun planned the murder as he had sneaked a kitchen knife into the gym a day before the phone delivery. They are trying to establish whether he had help.

A Flipkart spokesperson said Nanjundaswamy was not directly employed by the online shopping company but worked for an agency that delivered its products. His family will be given financial assistance, he added.
