Be prepared: Vehicle strike in Kerala on March 30

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, March 26, 2017: A 24-hour motor vehicle strike will be held on March 30 in protest against the Central government’s direction to increase the Third Party Insurance Premium by 50 per cent.

Kerala bundhMotor workers unions have called for the strike demanding roll back of the decision to increase the premium. BMS union will not be taking part in the strike.

The Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI)’s instruction has been to increase the third party insurance the premiums of vehicles with power range from 1000cc to 1500 by 50 percent of the existing premium.

This will be applicable to those who buy new vehicles and those who renew their old insurance. The insurance is mandatory as per Motor Vehicle Act and the government instruction is to implement the revision in the 2017-2108 academic year.
