Babies no one wants to take home

Mangalore Today News Network

Mar 14, 2016: Two infants abandoned by their biological parents are becoming a cause of attention at a children hospital in Srinagar these days. Both the babies have health issues and hence no one seems to be willing to take them home.

Babie

A girl child was abandoned by a woman, who appeared to be her mother, at Ward No. 2 of GB Pant Hospital. The baby girl, as per doctors, appears to have a congenital problem, which they feel may have been the reason for her being ’unwanted’. The girl is the second abandoned child housed in this hospital.

In almost a similar tragic manner, another baby, a boy, was found by people on the stairs of a local Shrine in Srinagar. He was subsequently brought to the hospital by some locals and has been admitted ever since. The baby boy as per the health professionals has some neurologic issue.

The story of these two infants not just exposes the inhuman nature of those who abandoned them but also raises a major question as to what our system has to offer to such children.

No one from the adoption agencies or even aspiring parents have come forward till now for these two souls and the government also seems to have no mechanism in place to take care of such an issue.

Hospital administration cannot keep the children there forever which takes us to the obvious question of what happens to them from here on.
