The raid T&T law firm offices in Greater Kailash, which took place on Saturday, had led to the recovery of the cash -- of which Rs. 2.5 crore was in new currency notes.

The police, who had initially started the raid following a tip-off, said the money was stashed in cupboards and suitcases at the firm’s offices. Since Saturday, the counting was on.

The money will now be kept as evidence by the Income Tax department.

Around 2 months ago, the Income Tax department had searched the premises of Rohit Tandon, the promoter of the T&T law firm. At the time, it had found documents related to Rs. 19 crore in unaccounted money, which had been kept as fixed deposit in a bank.

Rohit Tandon was away when the raids happened. He arrived on Saturday evening and was questioned by tax officials till late on Monday evening.

It took three SUVs to take away all the seized cash, which came upto around Rs. 14 crore.

"Rohit Tandon has reportedly said he can account for the money and some it belongs to his various clients," said one IT official who did not wish to be identified.

According to sources, the raids were also carried out at Firoz Shah Road and another location where Mr Tandon is believed to have offices.
