Mangaluru, Nov 20, 2016: Dakshina Kannada’s political arena has seen very few women leaders, who have made a mark through their outstanding works and close rapport with the masses. One among them is Shalet Pinto who has recently been appointed President of the DK District Women’s Congress Committee.
An advocate by profession, Shalet has done her LLB from SDM Law College in Mangaluru. Known for her pioneering role in organising women through the Youth Congress wing, Shalet has also served as the Vice President of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat. Her tenure has been remarkable for reasons more than one.
Presently, she is also contributing towards the co-operative sector as the Chairperson of Kinnigoli Women’s Co-operative Bank and as Director of Christian Women’s Co-operative Bank. She has in the past been the Director of MCC Bank.
Shalet is also the Secretary of Karnataka State Mahila Congress Committee and Vice President of District Congress Committee. Social service has also been her motto and she has been associated with Inner Wheel Club of which she is a former chairperson.
A runner-up in the Miss Karavali 1995 organised during the Karavali Utsav, Shalet is happily married to Jossy Pinto, a former secretary of Youth Congress Minority Cell, Mulki Block and has two children named Juhi and Jawahar.
