Ivan Dsouza, congress leaderMangalore, July 29, 2014: Ivan D’Souza is a known name in political and social circles in Mangalore. Always in the forefront in fighting for social causes, Ivan  has a distinctive urge to serve the society which he is doing with sincerity through his active involvement in various organisations.

Now, as the newly nominated MLC, the responsibilities on his shoulders have increased and he is determined to be the voice of the common man and fight for public rights.


Hailing from Mudarangady, Ivan had his schooling in Mudarangady and Shirva and later graduated from St. Aloysius College, Mangalore. He pursued law studies at SDM Law College. His leadership skills were evident during his college days when he was the President of the Student Council of SDM Law College and General Secretary of All College Students Union of Mangalore University. He joined the Catholic Youth Movement and  various organisations including Jaycees. He even has served as the CYM President of Mangalore Diocese.

His political career began in the year 1983 with his joining the Janatha Party. He even won the Mandal Panchayat elections. He served the party in various positions and contested the Kaup assembly elections in 1994 from the Janatha Party and in 1999 from the Janatha Dal, but was unsuccessful both the times. His foray into the Congress was in 2004 and since then there has been no looking back for him.

He has served the party in various capacities and is presently the KPCC Secretary. He has served as President of Cashew Development Board and Director of CAMPCO. He is also associated with various organisations like autorickshaw drivers’ union as well as labour unions.

Now, as an MLC his top agenda is to strengthen the road and rail infrastructure and also to ensure that the government programmes reached the target group.  He also wants to pursue his dream of renaming Dakshina Kannada as Mangalore and to boost Brand Mangalore as an educational hub.
