Mangaluru, March 19, 2016: Hearing Mangaluru’s new Mayor Harinath Jogi speak soon after getting elected to the city’s top post has struck a note of optimism among Mangalureans that he is a leader who will work for the betterment of the city with renewed vigour and tremendous will power.
That the new Mayor has requested individuals and organisations not to invite him for inaugurations is testimony to his commitment to the top job he will be holding for the next one year.
It was his great urge to engage himself in social work as well as his interest in politics right since his high school days at Padua that paved way for his entry to politics.
A senior politician and social worker, Harinath is a five time corporator of Mangaluru and was first elected in 1984. Representing Marakada ward, Harinath has been instrumental in initiating several developmental works in his ward.
As the new Mayor he has already made his priorities clear- to see that the city has a full-fledged Under Ground Drainage System, make it plastic free and also ensure that traffic problems are solved. Being very well aware of the city’s in and outs, he states an underpass at KPT Junction was a must to ease traffic flow.
He has the experience of serving the Standing Committee and was even a Deputy Mayor in the past. He was the chairman of the Standing Committee on Taxation, Finance and Appeals in the council headed by erstwhile mayor Jacintha Vijay Alfred. He is also hopeful that youth organisations would come forward and assist the MCC in its endeavours wherever possible. Mayor Harinath Jogi is happily married to Kasturi who is a housewife.
