Mangaluru, Jan 10, 2017: Theatre is one field that has cast a magnetic spell on this versatile veteran artist of Mangalurean origin. Thanks to his zeal and perseverance, today he is a known name and an acclaimed theatre personality who is famous for his unparalleled mime shows which speaks volumes about his talent.
Mime Ramesh has been an integral part of the theatrical group Rangayana for nearly two decades and has even served as Founder Principal of Bharatiya Ranga Shikshana Kendra, Rangayana. Earlier in 1975 he was a part of ‘Samudaya’ Group in Mangaluru and performed proscenium plays and street plays all over Karnataka.
Lucky to be trained under the great theatre personality Badal Sarkar Mime Ramesh is a gem of a talent. His Mime shows are immensely popular and till date he has over 500 one-man mime shows to his credit across India. His mime shows on Maya Mriga by Poorna Chandra Tejaswi, Rotti by P Lankesh, Over Coat of Nicholaoi Goloi have earned him accolades. His record feat has been the 90 minute non-stop mime show named ’Quest for Glory’ at Kalamandir, Mysuru.
He has directed shows for college students, organised theatre camps, workshops, has been a resource person and much more. That he is an expert in Children’s Theatre has to be mentioned here.
Ramesh is not only a good Yakshagana artiste, an art he loved since he was a little boy, but is also a talented Bharatanatyam, Kathakkali, Bhootha Nritya dancer, Kamsaale and veeragase artiste etc. He is an expert in stage designing, costume designing and choreography too.
His achievements have won him the Ranga Karmi Award and Kalai Selvan Award of South Indian Artists’ Association, Chennai. He was also instrumental in forming the Abhivyakta and Aayana theatre groups in Mangaluru.
