Mangaluru, July 28, 2018: A renowned academician who is passionate towards engineering education has recently taken over the mantle of the prestigious St. Joseph Engineering College (SJEC), Vamanjoor as its Principal. He is Dr Rio D’Souza who is also known as an able administrator with rich experience in the academic as well as industrial fields.
Rio D’Souza who is a Bachelor in Electronics and Electronics Engineering from Karnataka University Dharwad also has an MTech in Computer Engineering from VTU, Belgaum apart from an Advanced Diploma in Applied Bioinformatics from Bioinformatics Institute of India, Noida. He also has a PhD from the NITK, Surathkal.
Dr Rio D’Souza who initially worked for Kalpataru Institute of Technology, Tiptur and St. Aloysius College, joined SJEC in 2006. He has served the institution as Head of the Computer Science and Engineering Department, Dean of Computer Applications, Dean of Academics and as Vice-principal. While being the head of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell, he spearheaded the accreditation programme in the institution and oversaw SJEC being accredited by NBA, New Delhi for the period 2013 to 2019.
His leadership has led to SJEC being recognized as a transformational leader in engineering education by the Indo Universal Collaboration in Engineering Education. Dr Rio D’Souza is also an active researcher and is currently guiding seven PhD students. His research interests include Soft-Computing Technologies and Bioinformatics.
