Mangaluru, Oct 28, 2019: City Police Commissioner Dr P S Harsha has said that it has been confirmed that Samson who is arrested in connection with the murder of his sister Phiona Swedel Cutinha (16), a student of a private college in the city, was a addicted to ganja.
Speaking to reporters at his office on October 28, Monday, the Commissioner said the parents of Swedel had lodged a complaint with Konaje police station on October 8 stating that their daughter who had left home saying she was going to Mangaluru was missing and had suspected that she might have been kidnapped.
However, a thorough investigation by the police had revealed that Swedel had not gone out of the house and that even her mobile was switched off while it was in Konaje limits.
Further interrogation of the family members revealed that Swedel’s father who was a water contractor had incurred loss in business, their mother was a security guard in a prestigious company and Swedel’s brother Samson was out of the college after getting addicted to vices while studying engineering and was wiling away time at home. Police later began questioning him when he gave contradicting replies and finally admitted that he had killed her by hitting her with a hammer and had later dumped the body into a drain as none used to go that side during rains.
The accused has been remanded to judicial custody. The Commissioner said the police would seek his custody for further interrogation.
