Speaking to reporters at his office on October 28, Monday, the Commissioner said  the parents of Swedel had lodged a complaint with Konaje police station on October 8 stating that their daughter who had left  home saying she was going to Mangaluru was missing and had suspected that she might have been  kidnapped.

However, a thorough investigation by the police had revealed that  Swedel had not  gone out of the house and that even her mobile was switched off while it was in Konaje limits.

Further interrogation of the family members revealed that Swedel’s  father who was a water contractor had incurred loss in business, their mother was a security guard in a  prestigious company and  Swedel’s brother Samson   was  out of the college after getting addicted to vices while studying engineering and was wiling away time at home. Police later began questioning him when he gave contradicting replies and finally admitted that he had  killed her by hitting her with a hammer and  had later dumped the body into a drain as none used to go that side during rains.

The accused  has been  remanded to judicial custody. The Commissioner said the police would seek his custody for further interrogation.
